This final project was the one that I enjoyed the most. The assignment was to create a technical drawing of and object, either an exploded or cut away view.  I ended  with a hybrid of the two. I decided on a technical illustration of a small item, a car vent smartphone holder. With this being my first attempt at technical drawing I wanted to ensure that the project stayed manageable. I began with a sketch of the intact device and then a sketch of the exploded view.

The work in progress illustration reflect my attempt to combine a realistic illustration with with a semi-transparent one that would allow the viewer to see the smaller gears and inner mechanisms of the device.

In the end I decided that a combination of both an exploded view and cut away view would be the best to show the elements of the device.  I magnified the small gears so that the devices clamp release mechanism would be easily visible and added the annotations. I tried to add some paint stroke to make the illustration appear more grunge-like. Prior to adding the piece to my portfolio I will make the illustrations brighter to add more contrast.
